NVOCC
We are a licensed NVOCC. The difference between and NVOCC and a Freight Forwarder is that an NVOCC acts as a shipper to the ocean shipping company (VOCC) and a carrier to the customer, requiring tariff filing governed by the FMC. As a NVOCC we perform the following duties:
- Obtain competitive rates from carriers as required
- Select most cost effective and efficient routing based on customer requirements
- Add rates to Spectrum service contract with carriers
- Establish amend and fulfill service contracts with VOCC’s
- Manage rates and rules in Spectrum Tariff
- Prepare documentation such as master b/l to VOCC, house b/l to customer, arrival notice to consignee
- Provide global door to door services on a through bill of lading
- Additional services can be performed as a freight forwarder as long as these rates are filed in tariff
- In all business segments we communicate with:
- Vendors to confirm information such as status of cargo or assistance with the movement of documents or freight (for example, mechanics to get RORO cargo moving, couriers to move documents from/to CBP, other brokers/forwarders to assist with presentation of documents to customs, truckers for on time deliveries, suppliers for scheduling/PO verification)
- Steamship lines such as booking details, confirmation of vessel sailings/delays, telex and bill of lading releases
- Terminals to confirm receipt of cargo, damages, dock receipts
